Okay, so I'm fascinated with this fairy tale, and rather than ramble about last weekend at the beach which my friends already know about (or the ones who read this do, because they were there, minus Katie who got a long email version)... I'm taking advantage of this blog to do some on demand creative writing. Occasionally I make myself just sit down and keep my senses fresh. God gave me some minor writing ability and I want to practice to keep it up, I guess you could say. I try and honor God with my writing... what I write it clean, and hopefully thought provoking. Tonight's topic for lightning round writing is, of course, my own 10 minute rendition of little red riding hood. Tonight's version will probably be generic, and unfinished, but I promise they'll get more interesting with continued installations... I just need to lay the foundation tonight to get started. Here we go.
Once upon a time, there was a young woman named Andi. She was your typical college student; she enjoyed sushi and independant films and was the co-founder of the campus chapter for the "Save the Marmot" organization. Her grade point average was, well, average, and her looks were nothing out of the ordinary. She was about 5'4", with short reddish brown hair, and hazel eyes, and was rather stickish. What made Andi special was her kindness. She had a gentle heart, and tended to see the best in even the very worst people. Sometimes, this got her into trouble.
One friday night, while memorizing German verbs, Andi got a phone call from her friend Alex. He had called to ask a favor. His girlfriend, and their mutual friend Jess (who lived on South campus), was very sick and since he was at work and unable to take care of her, he wondered if Andi would go down to South Campus and stay with her for the evening. Tired of Deutsch, Andi readily agreed. She packed her book bag with a few c.d.'s, a thermos of Campbells tomato soup and a bag of cough drops, put on her bright red sweat shirt and set off through the treacherous darkening campus.
Now, there are two types of creatures to be encountered on a college campus on a friday night - nice guys and wolves, there are rarely any in-betweens. Andi was used to the wolves. It was easy enough to pick them out - they were the ones with way to much cologne, polo shirts, and a beer in their hands. She generally steared clear of them entirely, after a bad experience with one her freshman year, but she was still on her gaurd. Sometimes you'd run across a very slick wolf who didn't look like a wolf, and those were the most dangerous of all. Sweetest tongue has sharpest tooth and all that jazz.
Unbeknownst to Andi, already following her at a safe distance, was a very dangerous wolf. His name was Hunter, and he had recognized Andi from his spanish lit class, MWF at 2pm. He'd been interested in making her his latest conquest for quite some time, but their TA of all people, Henry, was oddly perceptive and had noticed his unwholesome interest in Andi. He had kept the two as far apart as possible, thwarting all of Hunter's best laid traps to snare the girl's interest since she always bolted out right after class and it was the only time he saw her all week. At last, he thought, a change to get her alone, with no TA in sight. Besides, Hunter was confidant in his abilities to catch a woman's interest and he figured he could at least have a phone number if not more by the end of the night.
To be continued when I'm more inspired, because this could be a lot more fun than I realized...
"Holy cow grandma! You have big, big, ugly teeth..." - Red
"Uh, yea, all the better to EAT you with!" - wolf
"HEY! My grandmother wouldn't eat me, you can't be her!" - Red
"Smart kid. Now be still." - wolf
"What have you done with my grandmother!?" - Red
"Um, I'm a wolf... you do that math!" - wolf
"You ATE her!? How RUDE." - Red
- Red Riding Hood
